【概要】
本書では、2012年以降の日本の防衛政策の変革が、1945年以降初めて直面した領土保全の脅威、特に中国の尖閣諸島に対する継続的な挑戦によって引き起こされたことを論じています。この脅威が、日本の独自のA2/AD戦略の構築を促し、長距離ミサイルの調達禁止の解除にも繋がったことを示しています。さらに、2022年に発表された新しい安全保障文書が、防衛費をGDPの2%に増加させることを義務づける内容であり、尖閣諸島を巡る問題がきっかけとなった2012年以降の防衛改革の集大成であることを位置付けています。とはいえ、日本の防衛改革は、地理的・人口的な課題、基地と地域社会との関係、限られた自衛隊の能力など、多くの困難に直面しているのが現実です。本書では、日本の防衛改革が、中国と米国による台湾を巡る軍事的な紛争への関与に与える影響についても分析しています。また、なぜ日本の防衛変革が尖閣諸島を巡る対立によって引き起こされたのか、そしてこの変革が領土防衛にとどまり、日本が国境を越えて軍事的役割を果たすには至らなかったのかについても説明しています。
