In their second year, all students at the Department of International Studies sign up for seminars (zemi) organized by department professors. These seminars are conducted in a small class in which you can sharpen your insights and deepen your awareness of international issues through discussions and debates. Approximately half of the seminars hold Field Studies in and outside of Japan.

While most seminars are conducted in Japanese, they often make extensive use of English readings and research materials which prepares their students for study abroad. Some students also write their graduation theses in English.

You will have ample opportunities to work with professors. For example, you can not only seek guidance during their office hours but can also ask professors for advice on their research project in a departmental workshop on graduation theses.
