Meiji Gakuin’s academic year runs on a semester system. The first term starts in April and ends in July; the second term runs from late September to January of the following calendar year.
International students are expected to register for a minimum of 12 credits per term; many take an average of 14-16 credits. Classes are worth either 2 or 4 credits, with every 2 credits generally equating to one class period per week. At Meiji Gakuin University, the periods are 1.5 hours long. Most courses run on a Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday schedule, but some classes are held on Wednesday. (Meiji Gakuin also has Japanese-based classes on Saturday morning.) Please see the Course List page for this year’s curriculum.
Aside from the courses conducted in English, students with advanced language skills are able to enroll in a wide range of upper-level courses taught in Japanese. If you are interested in taking a Japanese lecture course, please speak with your advisor. (UC students should consult the UC Director.)
Japanese Language Studies
In addition to the subject classes, we offer introductory and intermediate language courses to students who wish to learn Japanese while they attend Meiji Gakuin.
Extra Curricular Activities
The Staff of International Center (IC) periodically holds special events such as field trips and on-campus cultural activities. Please visit the IC office for the latest information. UC students have other events specific to their program. For further information, see the listings under the UC menu.
